The US Federal Aviation Administration said that a passenger plane and a military helicopter collided near the National Reagan Airport outside Washington late on Wednesday.
The regional flight, run by the company Psa Airlines for American airlines, had originated in Whitchita, Kansas. The CRJ700 and Sikorsky Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk collided with the plane approaching the airport at approximately 9 pm.
The American Eagle Flight 5342 company carrying 60 passengers and four crew, “participated in an accident” in the National Reagan. “Our interest is for passengers and crew on board,” the airline added. “We are in contact with the authorities and we are helping to respond to emergency situations.”
“The multi -agent search and rescue process is under implementation” in the Botomac River, where the first respondents for the survivors discussed. There was no immediate confirmation of any losses.
Warning sirens erupted throughout the American capital, where dozens of police cars gathered on both sides of the river near the scene, with roads closed on traffic, while helicopters containing members of the fibers are distorted above.
An American defense official said that there was a crew consisting of three on board the helicopter, but there are no senior employees. Black Hawk was on a training trip, according to Heather Claires, a spokeswoman for the army’s national capital area.
Another defense official said the position of the helicopter was not known. The army said that Black Hawk was working outside the Fort Belfar, Virginia, about 20 miles from the Pentagon.
“We are working with local officials and we will provide additional information as soon as they are available,” the army said in a statement.
In a statement, US President Donald Trump said he was “completely briefed on the terrible accident.” He later posted the incident on the social truth, saying it could have been prevented.
“The plane was on a perfect and routine line as an airport approach. The helicopter was traveling directly on the plane for a long period of time. He wondered.
“Why did the helicopter not tell what to do instead of asking whether they see the plane. This is a bad situation that it should have been prevented. Not good !!!” Trump added.
Beit Higseth, the Defense Minister of Trump, recently confirmed that X that the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Defense have opened an investigation into the incident.
The airport, which is located near the Pentagon, and on the other side of the National Commercial Center, said that all take off and landing operations were stopped, but the station remained open.
“I hope they find some people alive,” said Michael Will, 38, who joined a crowd of people on the island of Dingfield, south of Reagan Airport, to look at the search and rescue effort. “But it has passed three hours now and the water is very close to the freezing point.”
“We have provided our support for investigation and our customers,” said Sikorsky, who makes a Black Hawk helicopter and owned by Defense contractor Lockheed Martin.
The MHI RJ Aviation, which got a CRJ series of aircraft and support for Bombardier in 2020, did not respond immediately to request a comment.
