At least 20 people are feared dead in a major train accident near Baranda railway station in Bosavale division on the evening of January 22, as Pushpak Express passengers reportedly jumped from the train and were hit by the Karnataka Express train coming from the opposite direction. What really happened?
The accident occurred after rumors of a fire on the Pushpak Express train (No. 12533), running from Lucknow to Mumbai. Panicked passengers pulled the alarm chain. In an attempt to escape, many passengers got off the tracks.
Sources told Zee Business that the Karnataka Express (12627) approaching from the opposite direction hit several passengers.

The sources stated that approximately 7 to 8 passengers were seriously injured and are receiving treatment by railway medical teams.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Bhoswal and senior railway officials rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operations. Indian Railways medical teams and local administrative officials are providing immediate assistance to the injured.
Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Swapnil Nila said that the Pushpak Express was halted due to Alert Chain Pulling (ACP) and the reason behind pulling the chain is under investigation and some passengers came down on the tracks, which led to this tragic accident. “
Local authorities, along with the chief engineer of the railway department and state government rescue teams, are actively working at the scene.

Some eyewitnesses claimed that the Karnataka Express did not sound its horn as it approached. They claim that if the horn had been blown, the passengers could have been alerted in time to avoid the accident.
