The Higher Education Commission (HEC) through its Education Testing Council (ETC) has officially announced the schedule for the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2025. This test is a mandatory requirement for all law graduates seeking enrolment as Advocates with the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).

Purpose of the Law-GAT

The Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) aims to ensure that law graduates possess the essential knowledge, analytical ability, and ethical understanding required to practice law in Pakistan. Passing the Law-GAT is compulsory for candidates to qualify for enrollment as advocates with any bar council in Pakistan.

Who Can Apply for Law-GAT?

Applicants eligible for the Law-GAT include:

  • Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a university recognized by the HEC or PBC.
  • Graduates of foreign law universities recognized by the HEC or equivalent authorities are also eligible to apply.

Note: Candidates currently enrolled in an LLB program or awaiting final results are not eligible to apply.

Curriculum and Test Pattern

  • The test will consist of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs).
  • The assessment is designed to evaluate candidates’ understanding of core legal subjects, analytical reasoning, and professional ethics.

Qualifying Criteria

  • A minimum score of 50 out of 100 is required to qualify for enrollment as an Advocate.
  • The Law-GAT score will remain valid for a certain period as prescribed by the PBC and HEC.

Ineligibility Criteria

Applicants will not be eligible for the Law-GAT if they:

  • Have previously qualified the Law-GAT.
  • Are currently enrolled in an LLB program.

Other Important Conditions

  • Candidates must achieve 50% marks (50 out of 100) to pass.
  • Applicants who pass must meet other PBC criteria for enrolment.
  • Each candidate is allowed a maximum of seven (07) attempts.
  • Any form of cheating, use of unfair means, or sharing of test material will result in disqualification and legal consequences under HEC policy.
  • Candidates must bring their Roll Number Slip, Original CNIC/Passport, and admission documents on test day.

Facilities and Support

  • Roll number slips will be uploaded on the HEC portal three days before the test.
  • SMS and email alerts will be sent to all registered candidates regarding test details and venue.
  • HEC will not entertain any requests for changes in test center or date due to logistical issues.
