Islamabad: Energy distribution companies from the National Authority for the Regulatory of Electricity (NEPRA) requested that relief transfer with more than 52 billion rupees to consumers under the quarterly adaptation mechanism.
According to Nepra, the applications of electricity companies that seek to obtain a total reduction of 52.12 billion rupees have been received to amend the second quarter of the current fiscal year.
The required amendments include a reduction in capacity fees of 50.66 billion rupees and a decrease in the amount of 2.66 billion rupees in the loss of transmission and distribution.
However, an increase of 2.69 billion rupees has been searched in the framework of the costs of operations and maintenance.
The October amendment to December 2024 will be applied to consumers. Nepra will hold a hearing on these requests on February 12, and the decision will affect consumers throughout the country, including Karachi.
NEPRA sources said it is too early to determine the amount of electricity rate for each unit that will decrease before the session.
It is appropriate to mention that the government previously closed five independent energy producers (IPPS) with a total capacity of 2400 megawatts after negotiations.
The expected relief is attributed to more than 52 billion rupees to a large extent to the closure of this IPPS.
