MCB Introduction:
MCB Bank Limited is a Pakistani multinational commercial bank in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The Bank has a vast network of branches that span across Pakistan. Pakistani firm Nishat Group and Malaysian Bank May Bank are the biggest holders of shares.
The Bank was created to bring services to the banking sector for those in the South Asian business community. Adam G Group added it on July 9, 1947. The Bank was made a national institution in 1974 under the leadership of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. The Bank was among the very first banks which was privatized in 1991. The Bank was acquired by a group of Pakistani corporate groups headed by Nishat Group. In June 2008, Nishat Group owned a majority part of the Bank. The president of the Bank is Shoaib Mumtaz.
Mian Muhammad is the chairman of both Mansha Group and MCB. The group operates in the business sector of the country including cement, textiles, banking, and insurance. The Bank has created an Islamic banking division to provide products and services based on Shariah and has specialized branch offices that offer Islamic banks in 6 cities.
The year 2005 saw the bank’s management change the name of the bank 2005 from Muslim Commercial Bank Limited to MCB Bank Limited to explore markets across the globe. The bank was unable to obtain authorization, particularly from Western countries due to its name Muslim. In 2008, the MCB headquarters moved from MCB Tower in Karachi to Lahore to a brand new building called MCB House situated on Ghous-ul-Azam Street, commonly known as Jail Road.
