Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. or equivalent experience. Hair Colouring Techniques: Streaking/highlights. Bleach. Frosting. Dyes/tints. Hair Styling Techniques: Permanents. Iron waving/curling. Extensions. Twisting. Locking. Relaxing. Spiking. Roller setting. Blow drying. Hair braiding. Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.): Hairstyling Red Seal Certificate. Barber Licence. Hairstylist Licence. Barbering Trade Certification. Hairstylist Trade Certification. Experience: Experience an asset. Work Setting: Barbershop or hairstyling salon/studio. Work Site Environment: Non-smoking. Transportation/Travel Information: Own transportation. Public transportation is available. Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Attention to detail. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Standing for extended periods. Personal Suitability: Effective interpersonal skills. Flexibility. Team player. Excellent oral communication. Client focus. Dependability. Reliability. Hairstylist Specific Skills: Clean and style wigs and hair pieces. Suggest hair style compatible with client’s physical features or determine style from client’s instructions and preferences. Cut, trim, taper, curl, wave, perm and style hair. Analyze hair and scalp condition and provide basic treatment or advice on beauty care treatments for scalp and hair. Apply hair extensions. Apply bleach, tints, dyes or rinses to colour, frost or streak hair. Barber Specific Skills: Shave and trim beards and mustaches. Provide other hair treatment, such as waving, straightening and tinting and also provide scalp conditioning massages. Cut and trim hair according to client’s instructions or preferences. Screening questions: Are you currently legally able to work in Canada?. What is the highest level of study you have completed?. Do you have previous experience in this field of employment?. Are you available for shift or on-call work?. Do you have the above-indicated required certifications?.
